Gmail for Android may soon make it easier to utilize AI to draft emails

Gmail is one of the top email programs for Android. While much of the credit goes to the fact that it is preloaded on a large percentage of Android phones sold worldwide, the software itself deserves credit. Google is improving the Gmail experience with the new Help Me Write feature, which uses AI to help you create emails quickly. Users must enter written cues for the AI to work with, however in the future, this may be done by voice.
TheSpAndroid has launched a future Gmail app feature that lets you “draft an email with your voice.” You can speak your prompts, and the AI incorporated into the Gmail app will follow them to draft an email. The Draft Email with Voice functionality in Gmail is comparable to voice-based functions in keyboard programs, but there appear to be some important distinctions. For starters, this feature is included within the Gmail app itself, so you may use it regardless of whether your keyboard app supports voice input. Second, this does not appear to be basic voice dictation. Voice is used to enter the prompt, which the AI then uses to compose the email; this is a capability that most keyboard apps do not have.
When you start composing a new email or respond to an email, the voice typing interface will instantly open a large mic button. You can tap it to begin recording the prompt. Once completed, select the “Create” option to utilize AI to draft the email. If you depart the interface, a chip will show on your email screen, allowing you to return to the feature.
It’s unclear when Google will add this capability to Gmail for Android. Help Me Write is currently only available to Google Workspace Labs users in the United States and only supports English. We expect the Draft Email with Voice capability to be available to a subset of Gmail users first, followed by additional users after Help Me Write is available to them.
