Gmail on a Galaxy tablet replaces the bottom bar with a navigation rail

Gmail has had the navigation rail at the bottom for foldables for some months now, and the update is now being rolled out for Android tablets. Notably, the Gmail navigation rail is now generally available on Android tablets via a server-side upgrade. In the Gmail app, the navigation rail replaces the bottom bar.

The Gmail app on Android tablets is changing in a similar way to how the Google Chat homescreen looks. According to 9to5Google, the Gmail app now displays a left-aligned navigation rail on Android tablets. In addition, a hamburger menu symbol will appear at the top-left of the navigation rail, followed by a write button.

The server-side upgrade will bring the Gmail navigation rail to Android tablets

You will also see four tabs: Gmail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet. If you tap on any of these tabs or are in any part, a circular tab indication replaces the pill-shaped highlight to show you where you are in the application.

Previously, the bottom bar would decrease your inbox or message list, but now the navigation rail does not conceal and does not take up viewing area, so the view isn’t as severe. The navigation rail functionality is currently being rolled out. So, if you haven’t received it yet, you’ll probably need it for a while. The functionality is available in the Gmail app version 2023.11.12.x.
