It was recently reported on Thread Group’s announcement of a new credential-sharing function aimed at resolving compatibility problems across smart home devices from various companies. Google and MediaTek have now teamed up to create a hardware solution for smart home appliances.
Notably, MediaTek and Google are working on 2×2 hardware under the Filogic brand that will enable Thread, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth for sophisticated smart home configurations. Additionally, MediaTek has stated in an official post that the most recent Filogic chipset will be compatible with Matter hardware standards, meaning that smart home devices will be able to operate with each other despite the brand.
Smart home appliances typically use a variety of wireless technologies, including Bluetooth, low-power Thread, and high-speed Wi-Fi. This will change with the release of MediaTek Filogic, a new chipset that combines all four wireless technology modes for dependable, always-on connected solutions that provide a seamless experience on smart home devices.
In addition to Matter, MediaTek and Google are working together to enable homeowners create a smart home experience through Google Home’s connection with household equipment. In order to provide smooth communication, the new Filogic chipset will utilize MediaTek’s coexistence and offload characteristics while sharing the same 2.5 GHz ISM band.
