Google Chrome Support Is Ending For Windows 7 And 8.1 After February 2023

Whether you like it or not, new versions of software will eventually become mandatory, if only for security reasons. This now also applies to Chrome : Google has announced that the browser will no longer support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 from 2023.

Windows 7 has not been supported by Microsoft since January 14, 2020, for Windows 8.1 the last (support) bells will ring on January 10, 2023. The search engine giant from Mountain View, California is taking the second date as an opportunity, including its own Browser to draw a line.

Chrome 110 is over

As Google announced in a blog post , Chrome 110 will officially end support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. This version of the browser is currently scheduled for February 7th, 2023. There can always be minor shifts here, but there is certainly no question that support will end.

“You must ensure that your device is running Windows 10 or later to continue receiving future Chrome releases. This corresponds to the end of support for Windows 7 ESU and Windows 8.1 Extended Support by Microsoft on January 10, 2023,” writes Google .

Security Risks After February 2023

While end of support does not mean that the browser will stop working overnight, an operating system upgrade is still strongly recommended. This is because older versions of Chrome will continue to run, but no further updates will be released for users of those operating systems.

Google’s announcement comes as no surprise, because the end of support for Windows 7 is long overdue. The search engine giant has postponed the end because of the popularity of the operating system, which is still or has been so for a long time, but sooner or later Windows 7 will have to “believe in it”.
