Google Contacts is marked as a basic app for every Android phone, as it’s pretty hard to imagine an Android device without it. Many new features have been added to the platform in recent years, and the UI interface on various Google platforms has been updated. Last year in November, the latest 3×2 widget was introduced by the Contact app, as it was still under development. As of now, Google has started to roll out the widget with 2×2 and 4×1 variations for your home screen.
As in the new update, several kinds of widgets are available, of which the 2×2 format is by default and is customizable in several ways. It can be displayed as a 3×1 vertical bar long with the contact’s name along with an icon for texting or calling. If you have saved multiple numbers for a single contact, a widget will be displayed that’ll let you select the contact through which you want to make a call or send a message. It seems that you are not able to specify a preferred message if you are not using Google messages along with contacts.
This latest feature was spotted in the latest version (4.5.24.517943267) of the app that can be sideloaded from an APK mirror.
9to5Google spotted a 4×1 Favorite Contacts widget that displays starred contacts on the home screen. Users can choose to view their Google account or their device’s saved starred contacts. Contacts without images are represented by the first letter of their name. According to 9to5Google, not everyone has access to the 4×1 Favorite Contacts, and we can corroborate this. Yet over the coming weeks, it ought to become broadly visible for all users.
This may be just one of several adjustments coming to Google’s applications ahead of the significant Android 14 launch this autumn. We’ve been given tidbits of information about some of the visual improvements included with the update prior to the software’s release later this year, such as an improved live wallpaper experience and a new scalable Android volume slider to replace the current option, which tends to look ungainly on larger screen
