Google divides its AR division’s teams into hardware and ecosystem ones, as per reports

Whether someone names it mixed reality, expanded reality, or in terms of Mark Zuckerberg the Metaverse, it doesn’t categorize the field. Whatever the domain might be, it seems like the tech companies are looking out for ways to play around. Some big tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple are into it. Some fresh rumors suggest that the company Google is going to revise its current strategy for the AR field. It s reportedly to reorganize its workforce and adopt a two-forked approach.

The recent pieces of information come from a trusted source 9to5Google. As per this information, the tech company is going to categorize the team into two main divisions. These will be Platforms & Ecosystems and Devices & Services. The Devices and Services unit will be supervised by Rick Osterloh. Rick has already witnessed success with the original consumer hardware provided by the Pixel and Nest brands. This unit is also working on the AR glassware project.

On the other hand, the Platforms and Ecosystem unit will provide its services for Android-powered extended reality headsets. It is in line with the recent agreement of the company with Samsung to collaborate on the headsets. It is going to be similar to the one already presented with the distribution of OS across smartwatches, TVs, smartphones, Chromebooks, and other such devices. This division will be led by Hiroshi Lockheimer.

Well, if this recent information is correct then it can be assumed that AR projects are in safe hands at Google. Although the division suggests that the company is eager to begin monetization. Clearly, the company is not only interested in headsets. It is also going to introduce various other products like ski goggles. Besides this, time will clarify how things work and shape the future of AR.
