Google is Building a Local News Service to Which Anyone Can Contribute

Google is involved in the making of a new way to highlight and source the very much in or in talks local news for the local journalists.

This hyperlocal news sourcing and highlighting is to be called “Bulletin”. It allows anyone to publish a news story just by composing an article or blogging and then sharing the story related images and videos directly from their mobile phones via the platform’s mobile application—even without the need to make an outlet of their own.

The objective or let me say the concept behind the idea is to highlight the stories that are present within the communities by making them available via the Google search.

This would be making Google’s own News service a more reliable source for people who are looking and searching around for information related to what is happening around them.

The point that is a not clear is how would these posts be cleared in terms of accuracy and quality.

At present Google is testing the program in two cities of the United States—Nashville—Tennessee and Oakland—California.

It is giving out invitations to the citizen journalists for participation by providing them with an early access to the app—Bulletin.

Sami Cone—a Blogger who was present at the launch event of Bulletin app in Nashville told that the users would be able to update their blog continuously (as one could possibly do with a live blog post) and would be able to see the viewership stats to decipher that from where the readers are coming from.

It would be an interesting roll out to see and to know how well it fits with the Google’s strategy for capturing more viewers via its News and Search services.
