Google Is Testing Sponsored Ads On The Right Side Of Desktop

Google seems to be testing a new place for Ads on the platform; the right side area of the search engine has been vacant for ages, Google used to place ads on the right side of the desktop view a few years ago.

The search engine giant ended the practice of showing ads on the right side of the desktop in 2016 almost four years ago. Now it’s been four years since the right side area which is quite big is vacant.

However, Google seems to be testing a new era of right-side ads on desktop view as observed by Research Snipers.  In the screenshot below; you can see the search term “Huawei Nova se 5G” returns the common search results and the right side of the search engine is filled with devices, the results are coming from Google Store and DHGate Online store which is a normal e-commerce website.

Tested Using Chrome

The results also show Sponsored label on top of them which means it’s an Ad placed by Google Ads network.

However, we have tested the same query in other browsers including Internet Explorer and Opera but the results were different, there were no signs of sticky right sidebar ads on the page.

Tested Chrome

Google is supposedly testing the right-side ads feature in Google Chrome and the users can only see ads for some specific queries like products, food, and things that are for sale on the internet and you can buy them instantly. It is not clear yet whether Google will make this ad space permanent, or it’s just a test to make things better. It is important to mention that you can only see the right side ads if you are using the latest Chrome Version.
