Google is trying to replicate Samsung’s note-taking function on the lock screen

Google is developing a feature for Android that will allow users to designate a default note-taking app. Users will also be able to create a shortcut to take notes on the lock screen, and this feature will accommodate stylus input. Concurrently, the organization is striving to integrate Google Keep with the forthcoming function, enabling it to function as the default note-taking application and capture notes directly from the lock screen.

Thus far, Google Keep has alerted users that an upgrade was required to utilize the new feature when they enabled it through developer options on their Android device, set it as their primary note-taking app, and then accessed the note-taking shortcut from the lock screen. Alright, so there’re a few alterations to it.

A recent tip from 9To5Google claims that Google Keep now displays the message “coming soon” when you update it to version 5.24 or later and use the lock screen note-taking feature. It seems that Google may soon make available a feature that would let users write notes using Google Keep right from the lock screen. For those who take notes often, the new capability in Google Keep and Android is likely to be incredibly useful.

Here’s something really intriguing right now. This feature has long been available on Samsung Galaxy Note series and S2X Ultra (from S21 Ultra) devices. For Samsung to achieve that, a unique system has to be created. Android will have a common API for note-taking once Google adds the default feature, and outside developers can utilize it to offer the same functionality as Samsung devices.
