Google Maps receives Immersive view and some other features

According to some recent pieces of information, tech giant Google is all set to add an AI feature to its Google Maps app. During the company’s I/O event, the company introduced the ‘Immersive view for routes’ feature, which is now ready to be rolled out. Furthermore, the app will receive Google Lens and a feature that will give them information about EV charging stations.

Notably, the ‘Immersive view for routes’ feature will provide users with information like popular landmarks and restaurants in 3D in different states, like weather, different times of the day, and more. Such images will be generated based on AI that will take into account several street views and aerial images. The new feature is rolling out on both Android and iOS versions of the app in different cities, including Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tokyo, and Venice.

Google Lens has been synchronized with the Maps search bar

The app will receive a feature that will enable users to view traffic on a turn-by-turn basis. The new “Immersive View” button appears at the bottom right corner of the app. Furthermore, the app now incorporates Google Lens. It can be found in the search bar of the Google Maps app. It is currently functional in 50 different cities.

On pointing the camera to the area or place of interest, users will get information like nearby coffee shops, restaurants, ATMs, stations, and more on the home screen. Do note that the name of the feature has been changed from ‘Lens in Maps’ to ‘Search with Live View’. Furthermore, the app now features detailed maps, improved lane details, HOV lane information in the US, improved and new colors, realistic buildings, and AI-powered speed-limit information in Europe.

EV owners can find nearby charging stations with the help of Google Maps. The EV information feature will showcase the details about the compatible charger, the time when the station was last used, and whether the station is fast charging or not. Finally, Google has added a visual search function to Maps by integrating Search. This will be an AI-powered service that offers users in France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States photo-based visual search queries.
