Google Stadia Introduces New Games, Add-ons And 1440p Resolution

Google continues to invest in its Stadia game streaming service, releasing two new games, additional add-ons, and an important feature for Chrome users this week. The latter finally allows gaming in 1440p resolution after the great demand.

The lockdown triggered by the coronavirus and access for players beyond the 130-euro premium packages is likely to have given Google Stadia a certain upswing in recent weeks. The company continues to stick to its cloud gaming concept and announces new games, extensions, and features in the weekly community update. Among other things, the two titles Jotun: Walhalla Edition (14.99 euros) and Sundered: Eldritch Edition (19.99 euros) from Thunder Lotus Games are coming to the Stadia Store, which was released on other platforms three to four years ago Could celebrate the premiere.

Google also announces that The Elder Scrolls Online (TESO) will be the first classic MMORPG including PC crossplay for Stadia on June 16. The online role-playing game is supposed to offer the contents of the Morrowind expansion free of charge. Existing characters can also be transferred from the PC version to Stadia using the cross-progression function. Ranking games for PUBG and the two add-ons Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath (from 39.99 euros) and The Crew 2: Hobbies (free) also start. Technically, Google Stadia is introducing innovation for all players who use the streaming service via the Chrome browser.

Game streaming possible via Chrome in 1080p, 1440p and 4K

After Google has lifted the 1080p restriction for Stadia use via Chrome and unlocked resolutions up to 4K format, there is now another important intermediate step. Stadia will now be able to bring games in 1440p quality through the browser to Windows, Mac, and Chromebook systems. The so-called WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels has been standard for PC and especially gaming monitors for many years. Previously, Stadia users had to either live with a low 1080p resolution or simulate the 4K option using graphics card driver features such as Nvidia’s “Dynamic Super Resolution”. If you want to take a closer look at Google Stadia, you should activate the currently free, two-month test phase of Stadia Pro including 4K HDR functions, 60 FPS, and surround sound as quickly as possible. 

On June 3, 2020, the game streaming platform announced that it would limit the free period to just 30 days. Pro users have direct access to over 12 games during this time. These include Gylt, Destiny 2, GRID, PUBG, and the Serious Sam Collection. Apart from that, the Stadia Premiere Edition including controller and Chromecast Ultra is still available in the Google Store.
