Google to update Chrome’s Memory saver and media controls with a visual refresh

Google has added a series of features and design tweaks to its canary version of Chrome to get ahead of its stable channel release as one giant visual overhaul. Other than that, it has recently added live translation of video captions and memory savers for resource optimisation in older versions of the app. With the latest upcoming update, Google is working on refining the design of feature dialogue boxes.

Latest updates from Twitter via @Leopeva64, a Chrome feature researcher and Android Police reader, have pointed out some of the latest tweaks in Google’s dialogue design available on Chrome Canary. Variations are added to both features, including global media controls and the memory saver info card.

If you haven’t experienced this feature yet, it displays global media controls on the right side of your Chrome address bar if media is being used on more than one tab. Through these displayed controls, you’re able to control the media by staying on your active tab. Till now, this displays some basic info like notification shade media controls on Android, with toggles for live captioning available in English for now.

The dialogue does not state that there are only English captions in the most recent Canary build, and there is a shortcut to the Settings tab where the live caption language can be selected. When captioning is turned on, a new toggle that enables caption translation is also now accessible. However, Google doesn’t hide the translation language preferences; instead, it displays them as a drop-down combo box within the universal media controls themselves.

The dialogue now has a sizable four-segment progress bar directly below the one-liner that briefly describes the Memory Saver feature. The progress bar fills up in proportion to how much memory was released by snoozing the tab. The precise amount is mentioned in large and bold fonts.

The new memory saver dialogue design is a welcome improvement over the present version, which includes the memory saved in tiny letters after a paragraph detailing the feature.
