Google Wallet started replacing Google Pay on Android smartphones

Google announced at its last I/O conference that the implementation of Wallet, the replacement for Google Pay, has begun on all Android smartphones around the world. Eligible users can download the app through a simple update to its predecessor. It allows you to keep your bank cards, IDs, or even several tickets.

It all started in 2011, when the company presented Google Wallet, a payment application that worked with NFC technology before encompassing other methods of transferring money. Then, in 2018, the application merged with Android Pay to become Google Pay, which still exists today. But not for very long, according to the latest update.

Indeed, in April of this year, rumors of a Google Wallet resurgence surfaced on the web. The rumors were true: at the Google I/O conference held last May, the manufacturer confirmed that the application will be making a comeback. It will no longer be a simple payment solution as the application can store bank cards, identity cards, keys, various tickets and even the vaccination card.

Google spokesperson Chaiti Sen announced that the implementation of this brand new Google Wallet has just started in 39 countries. In France, the application will simply replace Google Pay, while in certain regions, including the United States, they will coexist for some time. So there is no other option than to download the Google Pay update to access its successor.

According to the first results, Google Wallet integrates the dynamic colors that change according to the user’s settings, as well as the tap-to-pay technology. It’s also easier to add a new document thanks to a button located right on the home screen. If you don’t have access to the application yet, be patient: it should arrive in the next few days, according to Google.
