GTA 6 is not affected by the voice actors’ strike

Recently, voice actors working in the gaming industry decided to go on strike to demand better pay and action against the use of AI. This will result in game delays, but Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be one of them.

Work on games will come to a standstill, at least for a while

Last year, it wasn’t just the scriptwriters who went on strike, actors also stopped working. The result: Hollywood stood still for weeks and numerous films and series had to be postponed. Now the actors and voice artists who work in the gaming industry have also announced that they are going on strike. But apparently the effect on ongoing productions will not be quite as dramatic as originally thought. Because the guidelines for this strike are pretty chaotic, as the Kotaku reporter Ethan Gach citing documents and statements from the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA (via Eurogamer).

Games that were already in development before August 25, 2023, including live service games, should not be part of the strike. The Interactive Media Agreement (IMA) that was already concluded previously applies to these games. “Due to certain provisions in the IMA contract, games that were in production at the time the union sent the company the notice of termination are not currently affected by a strike. Most of the notices were sent in September 2022,” writes SAG-AFTRA. This means that virtually all games that are expected in the near future can be completed as planned – at least with regard to the voice actors. This specifically affects games such as Grand Theft Auto 6, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Dragon Age: The Veilguard and many more.
