GTA 6 leaks: Take-Two goes on a hacker hunt with subpoenas

Take-Two and Rockstar are using all possible means against the attackers operating under the name “Cyberleeks”, who have been gradually publishing content from a leaked version of GTA 6 since the beginning of the week. Now they want to force Microsoft & Co to release user data.

For almost a week, new information about Grand Theft Auto VI has been emerging again and again, as a hacker group called “Cyberleeks” has apparently obtained an internal pre-release version of the long-awaited game. Content is gradually being published in the form of videos or images that reveal more and more about the game. While the attackers are accepting “donations” in the form of cryptocurrency, they are also threatening to make a playable build of GTA VI publicly available. The fall is anything but positive for the publisher Take-Two’s share price, as the value has lost around two percent since the beginning of the week. Like the US gaming portal Kotaku According to reports, Take-Two has obtained several orders in a court in the US state of New York with which it wants to force Microsoft, Google and a number of other companies such as Discord to reveal user data in order to find out about the attackers.

DMCA subpoena aims to reveal identity of hackers

Take-Two bases its action on the well-known Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and claims that the “Cyberleek” group violates the company’s copyright with its publications. Microsoft & Co should therefore hand over all “business records” and “investigation results” from internal investigations related to “Cyberleek” in order to find out the identity of the person or people behind the GTA 6 leaks. Apparently Microsoft is currently investigating the case internally, although it is unclear how the software giant or the other companies could be involved. However, rumors are currently doing the rounds that the GTA VI build could possibly come from an Xbox dev kit. Google and Discord, on the other hand, could be affected because the group used their services for communication purposes. GTA 6 is scheduled to officially release on November 19, 2026 in digital-only form for the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 and is one of the most long-awaited new games ever.
