Half-Life 2 Can Be Played in VR Soon

Have you always dreamed of playing Half-Life 2 in VR? This team of modders has done it and is about to reveal the result in a public beta almost 10 years after the project started. For the occasion, the latter has shared a particularly impressive trailer that is mouth-watering.

We promise that this article will not contain any jokes about Half-Life 3. Let’s focus on the positives instead, because there’s something to be said about Valve’s cult saga. Remember: it’s been nearly 20 years since the second opus forever revolutionized the video game industry. And while the sequel will probably never come, Half-Life 2 will forever remain the greatest game of all time for many fans.

Half-Life 2 is also the great era of mods, which has been widely popularized by the title by creating games like Counter-Strike or Garry’s Mod. Keep all this in mind and it won’t surprise you that a VR mod for the game has been in the works for a few years now. Almost 10 years to be exact since development started in 2013. And finally, after all this time, the mod will soon be available to the general public.

Indeed, the developers have announced the opening of the public beta for next month, through a trailer that is appealing, to say the least. In the latter, we relive the early highlights of the game, when Gordon Freeman first arrives in City 17, as well as some battle scenes that look quite fun.

Of course, you shouldn’t expect the graphic quality of a Half-Life Alyx, for the simple and good reason that the latter, in addition to being more recent, was built specifically for VR. Another important point is that the trailer also reveals some passages in the vehicle, which did not fail to raise some concerns among the players.

The developers themselves admit it: you have to have a strong heart not to get sick. However, they have provided some artifacts to make the experience better, such as the edges of the screen being darkened to narrow the field of view. Movement, meanwhile, will be smooth, just like in the original game.
