HBO Max Announces To Expand In Europe And Latin America By 2021
New films without exception would be launched both in the cinema and via streaming. The platform of choice is HBO Max and it is now known if and when the streaming service will come to us.
The announcement by Warner Bros. and its parent company WarnerMedia that the “guinea pig” Wonder Woman 1984 is not a one-off, but will be extended to the entire next year and a total of 17 new releases of films, can be described as a severe industry tremor.
So far, however, it was not clear how far or directly the shock waves of this decision can be felt. Because so far HBO Max is only available in the USA and has got off to a rather mediocre start there. But Warner has now answered the question because the company has announced how things are going with HBO Max and what is being planned internationally.
A message states that Andy Forssell, head of HBO Max Global, confirmed at the Web Summit that the streaming service will launch in Latin America and Europe in the second half of 2021. “Both regions will be very active by the end of the year,” said Forssell.
The whole world is the goal
There is no question that at some point German-speaking countries will also benefit from HBO Max. Because Forssell said the long-term goal was to be available in 190 countries around the world. But when is another question: “It’s all about how quickly we can achieve that.”
It is therefore not clear when it is Germany, Austria, and Switzerland’s turn. And you shouldn’t assume that HBO Max will be here next year either. Because the countries in which HBO is already active will certainly be the first to go, i.e. Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Portugal.
