Here is what you should know about YouTube Playables

Back in September 2023, the tech giant Google declared that soon users will be able to play games within the YouTube app. Such a feature was introduced under the name YouTube Playables. Reportedly, the games will be available within the app, thus eliminating the requirement of downloading the games. The company announced that the new feature would be accessible to a few users, but there are no updates about it yet. A tipster shared some images that reveal a little bit about the upcoming feature.

Some leaked information about YouTube Playables

In accordance with the leaked images, the games are mobile-first titles. Googe notes that the games will work on mobile as well as desktop. That being said, Playables shouldn’t be expected to be a Stadia revival, as these choices don’t suggest that high-end console games will be released soon. The shared images indicate that gaming titles like Stack Bounce, Daily Crossword, Daily Solitaire, Scooter Extreme, State.io, Brain Out, Basketball FRVR, Angry Birds Showdown, Cube Tower, Crazy Caves, 8 Ball Billiards Classic, Color Burst 3D, Color Pixel Art, Carrom Clash, and Cannon Balls 3D can be expected.

The screenshots indicate that the feature will be available until March 28. In simple words, we can’t expect a full rollout anytime soon. There is no official information regarding the release of Playables by Google. Perhaps we won’t have a stable version until the first half of next year. There is a slight possibility for you to test out this feature but that is conditioned on your YouTube premium membership. Only a few subscribers of YouTube Premium will have the chance to be a part of the testing phase.

In particular, Netflix’s Netflix Games series includes smartphone games. Based on our current understanding, Playables appears to be a direct rival to that. Which platform wins will become clear in due course.
