Are you excited about having an individual Voice Assistant for Home assistants? Then your wait is over. Home Assistant is soon going to be equipped with its own Voice Assistant. In a blog post, the founder, Paulus Schoutsen, announced a new project that could control smart devices by identifying voice commands. It won’t require a connection to a cloud-like the assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. It is targeted for release in 2023.
The following characteristics make the Home Assistant unique:
Nabu Casa is another company run by Schoutsen. This company is aimed at providing first-party cloud services for Home Assistants. Additionally, the company is aimed at developing advanced hardware solutions. These hardware solutions will enable the functionality of Home Assistant in your space without manually building a computer or Raspberry Pi.
Nabu Casa hired Michael Hansen, the developer for taking the lead on the project. Previously, Hansen had the experience of working on Rhasspy. Rhasspy is an open-source product. It is a voice assistant supported by its own community. The tech is incorporated into solutions that are destined to build. The company notes that it is looking forward to integrating multiple languages into the new voice assistant. Presently, the UI for Home Assistant is capable of dealing with 62 languages.
Schoutsen explained that primarily the product will focus on basics like the integration of the product with smart home appliances. Moreover, it was declared that the amount of work done by the product would be initially limited. Thus, indicating that users can’t place calls, web searches, or voice games using the Home Assistant.
Although Alexa and Google Assistant comply with all the essentials of ‘know it all’ devices, such integrations make the product a bit complicated. Specifically, if a user is searching for a smart home controller. According to Jennifer Pattison-Tuohy from The Verge, Siri is one of the simplest yet fastest voice assistants for home commands. However, Siri requires an internet connection and works best in an all-Apple ecosystem. However, it is now bridging the gap across various ecosystems of smart homes by integrating with Matter. In addition to this, Home Assistant is also going to be equipped with Matter support.
