Honda Shuts Production As WannaCry Ransomware Cyber Attack Prevails

Honda motor reportedly said today that they have shut production at their domestic production plant in Japan for a day after they have found WannaCry Ransomware cyber-attack in their computer systems.

Japanese giant halted its production on Monday at the plant Sayama located in northwest of Tokyo, the plant’s capacity is to produce 1000 vehicles per day and it specifically produces the models including Step Wagon, Odyssey Minivan, Accord sedan and compact multipurpose vehicles.

WannaCry Ransomware hit Japanese firms the previous weekend when a fresh broke out of WannaCry Ransomware attack started spreading North American, European and Chinese regions.

Despite the efforts of being secured from the attack when it broke out massively in May the systems got damaged by the virus and affected the plant’s computer systems, said the spokesperson.
However, production at other plants was not interrupted due to this infection, automakers resumed its operations on Tuesday after the closure of one day in production.

This fresh attack on Honda plant could be another indication of sophisticated attacks ahead. As Honda already made efforts to secure their systems from being attacked after the massive blow in May, they still got trapped into it.

Roughly, 200,000 computers were infected in more than 150 countries in the previous episode of attacks, security experts since had been warning companies to keep their systems updated and protected as this worm could strike with newer versions later.
Other automakers such as Renault and Nissan were affected too with this virus last month. Automakers stopped production in Japan, France, Romania, UK and India due to its massive threat.
