The former Huawei subsidiary Honor is starting its return to Europe with immediate effect. As of today, the new Honor 50 and its cheaper sister model Honor 50 Lite will be launched in Europe – including Google Mobile Services and prices from 299 and 529 euros respectively.
The Honor 50 and Honor 50 Lite mark the beginning of a new era, because Honor wants to start again with new smartphones in Europe after splitting off from the former parent company Huawei. For this purpose, technically attractive hardware is used, which is now back with Android 11, Google Play Store, and the Google apps. After all, Honor, as an independent company, is not affected by the US embargo against Huawei.
Technically, the two new Honor smartphones basically correspond 100 percent to the Huawei models Nova 8i and Nova 9, which have just been launched in Europe, so they were probably still developed under the aegis of Huawei. But now they are being brought onto the market in Europe by the at least officially independent former subsidiary Honor.
The Honor 50 5G has a 6.57-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels, and edges curved backward at an angle of up to 75 degrees. At the top, there is a hole in which Honor accommodates a 32-megapixel camera for self-portraits, and a fingerprint reader is also located under the display surface.
The cameras on the back offer sufficient equipment, as the Honor 50 has built-in the main camera with a proud 108.6-megapixel resolution. There is also a wide-angle camera with 8MPl resolution and two actually superfluous 2-megapixel sensors for depth effects and macro shots
Inside the Honor 50, a 5G-capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G does its job, which is an eight-core ARM chip of the upper mid-range. Depending on the model, it is paired with six or eight gigabytes of RAM. The internal flash memory of the Honor 50 is 128 or 256 gigabytes in size in the European models and unfortunately cannot be expanded using a memory card.
The Honor 50 also has a 4300mAh battery that can be charged quickly thanks to supercharging. NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and WiFi-ax are also part of the equipment. You won’t find wireless charging, a metal frame, or an even more powerful camera here. Honor wants to launch the basic version of the device in this country for 529.90 euros (RRP), while the version with eight GB of RAM and 256 GB of permanent storage should be available for 599.90 euros.
In addition to the Honor 50, the Honor 50 Lite is also coming onto the market today, which will go on sale in Germany for 299.90 euros. This is a more simply equipped model with a 6.67-inch LCD panel with 1080p resolution and a Snapdragon 662 4G SoC. The device also has a 64-megapixel main camera, also an 8-MP cam for wide-angle shots, and two 2-MP sensors each for depth effects and macro images.
Honor is offering the Honor 50 for pre-order starting today, when the Honor 50 Lite will be available is still open. Currently, at least the more expensive of the two Honor smartphones should be delivered from around mid-November.
