Honor Magic V: Foldable competes with Samsung

After the spin-off from Huawei, Honor finds its way into the market of foldable smartphones and presents its first foldable, the Honor Magic V. The foldable model has a large 7.9-inch display, the latest Snapdragon chip, four cameras and Google Android 12. While the former parent company Huawei continues to be restricted with regard to its US embargoes, Honor can draw on the full. This means that the company’s new smartphones can not only rely on Google services again, but also use the latest technologies from the chip manufacturer Qualcomm. The Honor Magic V is the spearhead of the Chinese, even if a market launch in Europe seems uncertain.

Large display and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

The foldable smartphone uses two comparatively generous OLED displays – measuring 6.45 inches on the outside and 7.9 inches on the inside. The resolutions and refresh rates are 2560 x 1080 pixels at up to 120 Hz and 2272 x 1984 pixels at up to 90 Hz. There is also 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, HDR10 + support and IMAX Enhanced -Certification.

The recently introduced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip with eight computing cores, a performance of up to 2.995 GHz (Cortex X2 core) and the Adreno 730 graphics unit takes care of the drive of the Honor Magic V. It is supported by 12 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and a flash memory of up to 512 GB. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G, USB-C 3.1 Gen1, dual SIM and NFC are among the key data of the horizontally foldable smartphone. The battery is also rated at 4750 mAh and charges with up to 66 watts via “Supercharge”.

4 cameras

According to the official data sheet, the Honor Magic V has a total of five cameras. A system with 42 megapixels (f / 2.4) is available on the front – inside and outside – for selfies, while the main camera has three sensors with 50 megapixels each. In addition to the wide and ultra wide angle, the manufacturer also specifies a “Spectrum Enhanced Camera”, which, however, has not yet been described in detail. The Honor Magic V is set to celebrate its premiere on the Chinese market this month. The smartphone is sold with Google Android 12 and the Magic UI 6.0 above it in the colors black, space silver and burnt orange from the equivalent of 1380 euros.
