How to play craps: Basic rules and strategies

Craps is a popular casino game played with a pair of dice. The game is relatively simple to learn, but some basic rules and strategies you should know before you start playing.

Introduction to Craps

First thing: craps is a game of chance. The outcome of each dice roll is therefore entirely random. No way to predict the result. However, some basic rules govern how the game is played.

The game of craps is played on a table that has a layout with various betting options. There are two stages to a craps game: the come-out roll and the point phase. During the come-out roll, the shooter (the player rolling the dice) will roll the dice. The shooter wins if the result is a 7 or 11. If the result is a 2, 3, or 12, the shooter loses (known as “crapping out”). If any other number is rolled (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10), that number becomes the “point.”

Once a point has been established, the game moves into the point phase. The shooter keeps rolling the dice until he either rolls the point number again (win) or rolls a 7 (loss). Other players at the table can also place bets on the outcome of each roll.

Craps betting options

There are many betting options in craps, each with its own odds and payouts. Some of the most common bets include the pass line bet (which is a bet on the shooter winning), they don’t pass bet (which is a bet on the shooter losing), and the come bet (which is a bet on the shooter winning after a point has been established).

One strategy that some ‘craps’ players use is called the “3-point molly”. This strategy involves placing bets on the pass, the come, and the odds bet. This aims to minimize losses and maximize wins by taking advantage of the odds in the game.

Another common strategy is the “iron cross” bet. This bet involves placing bets on the field and the 5, 6, and 8 numbers. This strategy aims to cover as many numbers as possible and increase the chances of winning on each roll. It’s important to remember that there is no guaranteed winning strategy in craps, as each roll of the dice is completely random. However, by understanding the game’s basic rules and using some common betting strategies, you can now increase your chances of winning and have a more enjoyable craps table experience.
