How to transfer Final Cut Pro projects from Mac to iPad

You may be aware that you cannot transfer a library from your Mac to your tablet if you run Final Cut Pro on your iPad. that seems there is a way to achieve that, but it is not immediately apparent.

One significant function, round-tripping, has been left out of the initial release of Final Cut Pro for iPad. Here, a project can switch easily between one device and another and vice versa.

Before starting a video production on your iPad Pro while travelling, consider starting it on your Mac. Bringing it back to your Mac when you get to your editing space is the next step. This is not feasible with Final Cut Pro for iPad, at least not at launch.

Chris Hocking, a Late-Night Films co-founder and developer of numerous tools for filmmakers, has figured out how to transfer a project from your Mac to your iPad. Unfortunately, the procedure is somewhat time-consuming.

Apple uses a.fcpbundle for Final Cut Pro projects on the Mac but a.fcpproj bundle on the iPad, as Hocking explains. The fcpbundle file is contained in that fcpproj bundle.

How to transfer a Final Cut Pro project between a Mac and an iPad

  • Launch Final Cut Pro on your iPad and start a new project.
  • your project as necessary.
  • To export your Final Cut Pro for iPad project, tap the share option.
  • Open the file in Final Cut Pro for Mac by airdropping it onto your Mac, and keep editing.
  • From your Mac, AirDrop the project bundle back to your iPad.

How to launch an iPad project in Final Cut Pro

It’s more difficult to start a project on your Mac and transfer it to an iPad. The folder structure must be created by you using additional files.

According to Hocking, you must create your own http://com.apple.VAProjectInfo metadata file, which should be stored inside the main project folder. Replace the project name after copying it from an existing project and editing it in a text editor.

The last step is to produce a thumbnail file that will be shown on the launch screen. You can AirDrop the file to your iPad, provided you have these files and the appropriate folder structure.

Restrictions

As most Mac-specific information functions on tablet-based software, support for Mac projects is surprisingly extensive.

On the iPad, every project within an event will be visible. Transitions, multi-camera sequences, and most text effects also appear. Several features, such as color boards, will display but not be editable. In their current condition, certain Motion templates and third-party effects are also broken.

This demonstrates that switching between devices is feasible and suggests that Apple might soon offer official round-tripping functionality. While they are not yet available, third-party plugins are promised to be made available shortly and will significantly enhance their capabilities. The future of Final Cut Pro for iPad seems bright, despite its limited debut.
