Huawei discloses that HarmonyOS NEXT will run on the Harmony Kernel

A few months ago, we learned that Huawei would introduce its new operating system, Harmony OS NEXT. As compared to the previous operating systems, the new OS won’t support Android apps. It is going to be a remarkable shift for Huawei.

According to some recent pieces of information, the company is working on another significant aspect. Reportedly, the company will use Harmony Kernal as the base for the new operating system. In simple words, Huawei will abandon the common Linux kernel. Notably, the Linux kernel is the base of several operating systems, like Android.

For Huawei, this is a significant risk, but it is undoubtedly driven by the difficulties they have had as a result of world politics. They are attempting to address these issues and carve out a niche for themselves in the operating system industry with HarmonyOS NEXT. The CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, Yu Chengdong, stated that the company’s system, known as Hongmeng in Chinese, is based on fully developed technology. It becomes more device-adaptable as a result.

According to the company, as compared to Linux, the new operating system is three times more efficient. The heterogeneous native mechanism of HarmonyOS NEXT is its key feature that optimizes performance across different hardware. This translates to improved resource management and seamless functioning across a range of gadgets, including wearables, smartphones, and smart home appliances.

In addition to this, the new operating system has received 3-highest security certifications. It means that HarmonyOS NEXT features kernel-level security. On the whole, the company is slowly and gradually moving towards the development of its independent infrastructure. The new OS incorporates AI to ensure that consumers get smarter and more effective services.

The success of HarmonyOS NEXT is questionable. Of course, it depends on several factors, like support from app developers, consumer behavior, and how it operates across different apps.
