China’s leading smartphone maker Huawei Technologies has unveiled the design of its next-generation 5G smartphones. Huawei will introduce foldable 5G smartphones in 2019.
Huawei’s rotating CEO Ken Hu revealed at the World Economic Forum in Tianjin that Huawei will launch a 5G foldable phone by mid of next year. The phone will offer better speed and lower latency.
Hu said, “At 100 times faster than today, [buyers] are also going to enjoy an amazing high-definition video experience with a big screen on your smartphone.”
Huawei recently overtook Apple in terms of phone shipments. Now the company is looking to beat Samsung and become the top smartphone maker in the world.
According to the Shenzhen firm, the total sales of Huawei and Honor have gone up from 11% in the second quarter of 2017 to 15.8% in the second quarter of 2018.
Other than Huawei other Chinese smartphone companies have also announced plans to launch 5G equipped phones including Oppo and Vivo.
But according to the Vice-president of mobile big data consultancy Aurora Mobile Sissi Chu there has been less innovation in smartphones in the last couple of years.
Foldable Screens will be a huge step now in mobile technology innovation that will increase sales and boost the smartphone market.
Sissi said, “Smartphones with a foldable screen could be one of the few major technology innovations expected in the near future, and they could help boost sales again as consumers yearn for change.”
Samsung is also planning to launch a foldable smartphone. The mobile division CEO of Huawei DJ Koh said that its “time to deliver” on a foldable phone.
