According to a renowned tipster, Revegnus, Huawei might be working on three new chips. The tipster claims that one of the new chips might be a direct competitor to Apple’s M2 chips. The tipster added the ‘confirmed’ tweet to his original message as well, demonstrating his confidence in this. Given that the company recently unveiled the Kirin 9000s to all of our surprise, Huawei appears to be back in the SoC game.
The new processor is used in Huawei’s high-end handsets i.e., Huawei Mate 60 Pro. In comparison to the Snapdragon 888, the chip is not that powerful. But anyway, it is a huge success for Huawei since it has support for 5G given the fact that the company has been banned from using 5G processors for the past few years. The company managed things on its end by partnering with SMIC.
The tipster, Revegnus, has not shared any details about the company’s upcoming chips. There is no information on which segments will be covered by the new processors. Huawei appears to be progressing in that direction.
Huawei is taking things to a better level on its end, and it has raised curiosity in the US government. They want to learn how Huawei was able to design a 7-nm Kirin 9000 chip in the wake of a ban with the help of SMIC. Besides this, the US has imposed other restrictions in the form of export rules. Furthermore, there is only one company in the world that designs the machine that uses extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) in order to design these chips. Previously, ASML had approved that it wouldn’t export any EUV machines to China.
On the other hand, designing a 7nm smartphone SoC is possible, but it is a tough task. Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor, reportedly wants to know everything there is to know about this chip, according to The South China Morning Post (SCMP). They are dubious. It appears that this narrative is far from ending.
