Huawei might get access to Qualcomm’s 5G chips

A fresh new rumor from China indicates that Huawei could gain access to 5G chips from Qualcomm. Well, this rumor roots in the information that the US has relaxed some export rules. For this reason, Qualcomm might be permitted to give Huawei access to its 5G SoCs. Well, this is just a rumor. So, we have to take this information with a grain of salt. There is no official information about this news from Huawei or from the US. It is a matter of time. Until then, Huawei is bound to use similar tech for its smartphone as it does now.

We all know that Huawei does not have access to 5G processes. It is facing bans and restrictions imposed by the US. It is ongoing for years now. Similarly to it, the company can’t even use Google services on its products. Previously, in 2019, the US listed the company on the Entity List. In this way, Huawei was barred from accessing the US supply chain. On the other hand, in 2020, the US modified its export rules. Therefore, chip foundries producing processors employing American technology were prohibited from selling Huawei their goods.

Huawei used the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but only for 4G

Huawei can’t use the 5G processes in its smartphones. However, it does have access to Qualcomm chips. The newly introduced Huawei Mate 50 Pro and Huawei P60 series feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It was Qualcomm’s flagship SoC introduced last year. It has support for 5G connectivity. The 5G feature has been removed from Huawei smartphones. However, 4G support is available.

Without a doubt, Huawei was significantly impacted by the US limitations. Before everything that transpired, the business was already well on its way to being the top smartphone OEM in the world. It is no longer able to employ 5G SoC or add Google services to its hardware. One of Huawei’s main issues will be resolved if this rumor comes true. However, things will become clear with time.
