Huawei: P40+ Now Available Worldwide; No Google Apps This Time

Even though Huawei has been banned from collaborating with Google, its Android smartphones continue to drive the business forward. The P40 series was announced earlier this year but only the P40 and P40 + models were available to purchase outside China at the time. Now the camera powerhouse that is the P40 Pro+ is heading to the rest of the world but the Play Store still has no warning.

The P40 Pro+ has main selling point in the rear camera array that includes a 50MP main lens, an ultra-wide 40MP camera, an 8MP periscope lens, and an 8MP telephoto. There’s also all the usual Android smartphone high-end features, such as a large 4,200mAh battery, 40W fast charging (over wired and wireless), Android 10, and water protection IP68. Nevertheless no headphone port.

This phone doesn’t ship with Google Play Services until you get too excited because there are no Google apps. Thanks to their reliance on the Play Services Framework, most third-party Android apps won’t work either. Huawei’s own app store has been slowly improving, but it’s a high wall to climb.

Huawei P40 Pro+ is now available on pre-order in Europe for EUR 1399 (~$1.588) and GBP 1299 (~$1.654) in the UK. That’s a lot of money to pay for a phone that won’t run Google Maps, but at least you ‘re going to be able to take some fantastic pictures.
