Huawei will invest $790 million in 5G technology
Huawei has announced during the pre-event conference of MWC 2018 that the company has plans to invest $790 million in 5G technology research and development, the Chinese giant has also announced that it will release 5G commercial device in 2018.
Huawei’s 5G enabled Kirin Processors and smartphones are expected to appear on the market by next year. Huawei president 5G product line, Yang Chaobin said Huawei started working on 5G research and development in early 2009, the company also prototyped key technology verification during 2012 and already invested $600 million in 5G technology in 2013.
The Chinese manufacturer conducted prototype system tests in 2015 and participated in 3GPP R15 standard formulation from 2015 to 2017. With all the history of 5G development, the Chinese manufacturer is all set to go commercial in 2018 or 2019.
Currently, Huawei’s 5G concepts and technology is adopted by the 3GPP organization, Huawei has been leading the 5G technical indicators, industrial advancement and application verification, the company is honored to conduct large-scale 5G tests in Korea and Canada.
Managing director and president of Strategic Marketing Huawei, Xu Wenwei said Huawei has spent more than $12 billion in overall research and development during 2017 and a handsome amount goes to 5G technologies.
Besides 5G technology, Huawei is also mulling to invest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), however, AI is meant to improve its internal systems with the help of AI.
5G is now considered the future technology of the decade, Nokia has also announced Future X architecture and ReefShark chipsets for 5G, the company is heavily investing in building a strong infrastructure for 5G technology. Several other mobile manufacturers are also collaborating to leverage from the 5G technology.
