Humane fires employees prior to the shipment of its “Ai Pin”

According to The Verge, wearable firm Humane AI laid off 4% of its employees before releasing its Ai Pin. According to sources acquainted with the situation, leadership informed employees that funds will be cut in 2024. The layoffs began earlier this week and will affect approximately ten people.

On LinkedIn, CEO and co-founder Bethany Bongiorno described the layoffs as “part of a wider refresh of our organizational structure as our company evolves with purpose for this next phase of growth.” She also stated that CTO Patrick Gates will be promoted to the position of advisor, and that Humane AI had appointed new heads of hardware, software, and other departments as part of a reorganization.

According to Bongiorno, the layoffs were “not communicated as a layoff,” despite sources informed The Verge that they were, both verbally and in writing. Ex-Apple executives Bongiorno and her husband Imran Chaudhri created Humane. Its main product is the “Ai Pin,” which functions as a wearable AI assistant. The item was first seen at a fashion show in Paris, and the business said last month that it would begin delivering in March for $699.

AI Pin is a startup

The pin responds to voice instructions and projects important information onto the user’s hand via a built-in projector. It can also use a camera to perform AI-powered optical recognition. It runs Cosmos OS software and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon CPU with a dedicated Qualcomm AI Engine. According to the founders, it “quickly understands what you need, connecting you to the right AI experience or service instantly.”

The Ai Pin hasn’t been properly tested, but the business illustrated how it works in a video released last month. The inventors demonstrated how to give it particular directions such as “play music written by Prince, but not performed by Prince.” The device may then project the information onto your hand and control music playback and other functions by tilting or closing your palm.

It can also search the web for answers to questions and send messages with modifiers like “add more excitement.” You can use it to track your health and diet, and Humane provides a central platform for photographs, videos, and other media, as well as accessories such as clips, battery cases, and more. However, how successfully it performs AI tasks in the actual world remains to be seen.
