In the first seven hours, Threads receives 10 million registrations

Yesterday Meta officially introduced its Twitter alternative i.e., Threads. It is believed to be a direct contender of Twitter. Users can use the Threads platform in a number of ways. They can post text, images, and videos. Similarly, they can like, comment and share the content of their choice.

Despite the restricted accessibility of Threads, the platform has observed 10 million signups in just the first seven hours, as per the information shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. It is in accordance with the fresh updates provided on the official page. Whereas the last two updates indicate that 2 million people signed up for the service in the first two hours. The numbers reached 5 million in four hours.

A quick calculation shows that every second, between 250 and 350 persons from more than 100 different countries register. The numbers could be significantly higher if the service was introduced in the European region. As per the information shared by regulators, Meta will soon introduce a GDPR-compliant version of the newly launched service. For this reason, EU users have to wait for some time.

In accordance with the vision of Mark Zuckerberg, Threads won’t be only a competitor to Twitter rather it will be compatible with the open protocol ActivityPub. It means that it will be functional with both Mastodon and WordPress. In this way, users will have the opportunity to connect in ways that are not supported on current well-known social media sites.

Threads can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Desktop users can also access it from threads.net. Besides this, one of the convenient ways to use the new service is by using the current Instagram account and username. Over a period of time, new features will be introduced to the service similar to hashtags, such as suggested posts, an improved search tool, and simpler navigation for following trends in real life.
