As expected, Apple has now given the go-ahead for the iOS 17.6 update and is now distributing this latest version to iPhone users. At first glance, this update only brings bug fixes and security-related changes.
iPhone and iPad users will now receive a new update for iOS 17. As far as we know, the new iOS version does not contain any new features – at least Apple has only mentioned bug fixes and security updates in the release notes. The main fixes were vulnerabilities in the kernel, for the sandbox and in AppleMobileFileIntegrity. There were also security holes in Safari, Siri and in the sharing functions for families. We have attached the entire release notes that Apple published at the end of the article. iPhone owners should update promptly to fix problems and security holes.
In addition to the update for the iPhone, Apple has also released iPadOS 17.6 and MacOS 14.6.
Depending on the user settings, the update is distributed as an over-the-air update (OTA) either at a preselected time or as soon as it is available. You can also use iTunes with a PC for the update and connect your iOS device to it. If you want to receive the update as quickly as possible and don’t want to wait for the automatic installation, you can search for the software update in the settings and install it directly. To do this, go to Settings / General / Software Update. The iOS update is displayed there and you can start the download and install it straight away. This usually means you get the update quicker than if you wait for an update notification or choose the automatic function.
