iPad Mini 7 rumor check: Apple fans expect innovations

The iPad Mini 7 is a long time coming, but the rumor mill is churning. From powerful chips to fixing “jelly scrolling” – what can we expect from Apple’s compact tablet? An overview of the possible innovations and what they could mean for users.

Compact powerhouse with AI ambitions

Three years have passed since the launch of the iPad Mini 6 – it’s high time for an update to Apple’s popular compact tablet. Although the tech company from Cupertino has remained silent so far, there are increasing indications that the iPad Mini 7 will be released soon.

But what can Apple fans expect from the new generation? The heart of the new iPad Mini is likely to be a significantly more powerful processor (via Neowin). While the current model still uses the A15 chip, Apple could take a big leap here. The A17 Pro from the iPhone 15 Pro or even the A18, which has not yet been officially presented, are under discussion. The reason for this upgrade is obvious: Apple wants to optimize its devices for AI applications.

Experts agree that Apple will stick to the basic shape and the 8.3-inch display. However, a significant improvement could be a fix for so-called “jelly scrolling” – a display error in which one half of the screen noticeably lags behind in the display. For many users, this was an annoyance that affected the use of the current iPad Mini 6.

More storage

In terms of connectivity, the iPad Mini 7 is likely to take a leap forward. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are at the top of many Apple enthusiasts’ wish lists. The mobile phone variant could rely entirely on eSIM and ditch the physical SIM card slot – a trend that can already be observed in other Apple products. Another upgrade probably concerns the RAM.

The current 4 GB of RAM is expected to be increased to 8 GB – a necessary adjustment to smoothly support the expected AI functions. However, it should be noted that the much-discussed “Apple Intelligence” will probably not be introduced in the EU until 2025, provided Apple can come to an agreement with the local authorities.

New positioning and accessories

Apple could also make some ergonomic improvements to the iPad Mini 7. There is speculation that the front camera – similar to the 10th generation iPad – could move to the side. This would make video calls in landscape format much more pleasant. Innovations are also on the horizon when it comes to accessories. The Apple Pencil 2 could be replaced by the recently introduced Apple Pencil USB-C, which would further expand the functionality of the compact tablet.

When it comes to colors, Apple could base itself on the current iPad Air and offer options such as space gray, blue, violet and Polarstern.
