iPhone 12 Release Date Delayed For Months

While attempts are being made worldwide to slow down the spread of COVID-19, tech companies such as Apple are struggling with the necessary protective measures for employees and restrictions in the development of current and upcoming products. As the Japanese analyst from the Nikkei report predicts, the coronavirus also has a negative impact on the schedule release of the iPhone 12, which should normally be presented in September. Now, however, there is talk of a month-long delay in the launch date that the US manufacturer could currently be thinking about.

Travel to China, falling demand and Issues in production should cause problems

Industry-related sources say that Apple is already facing difficulties when finalizing a prototype of the iPhone 12 (Pro), because the restrictions in the current situation do not allow travel between the U.S. and China, among other things. In addition, large product shipments are individual components of the iOS flagship allegedly requested only at the end of August, instead of the usual during June. The mass production of Apple’s first 5G smartphones could, therefore, start much later than in the past two years.

The classic September date has already been dispensed with in earlier iPhone models. The iPhone X was released in November 2017, while the iPhone XR was delivered in October 2018. Parallel to the restrictions in production, Apple is currently supposed to analyze the market and, above all, iPhone demand in more detail. This could be lower than expected in the coming months due to the coronavirus and changing priorities among users. It remains to be seen whether Apple will stick to an as-yet-unannounced iPhone 12 keynote in September despite possible postponements.
