Apple apparently plans the return of the Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 17 Air. Internal tests show that the ultra -slim smartphone with only 5.5 mm thick makes clear compromises in battery life – a problem that solves Apple with accessories.
The iPhone 17 Air, which has not yet been officially presented, will be considered the thinnest iPhone in Apple history with a height of only 5.5 millimeters. But this extraordinary slimmingness brings challenges, especially with regard to the battery life.
Current reports If the iPhone 17 Air is expected to enable only 60 to 70 percent of users a whole day without reloading, while with other iPhone models this rate is between 80 and 90 percent. This corresponds to a decline in battery life by around 20 percent compared to the other models of the iPhone 17 series.
In order to counteract the iPhone 17 Air’s battery problem, Apple is working on a new Smart Battery Case. This accessory that was offered in the past for Apple for iPhone models for iPhone 6 to iPhone 11 (but still for iPhone 8) could be specially designed for the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. Apple had recently focused on the universal Magsafe battery pack and set the Smart Battery Case.
With the switch from Lightning to USB-C, the Magsafe accessories were no longer produced. The return of the Smart Battery Case could not only be of interest to the users of the iPhone 17 Air, but also for many other iPhone users who want an integrated solution for a longer use of battery-if Apple will offer the shell universally again.
In addition to the limited battery life, the iPhone 17 Air will also have to compromise on camera technology. According to reports, it will only be equipped with a single 48 megapixel fusion camera, while ultra-wet angle and telephoto lenses will be missing. This is likely to restrict the possibility of recording spatial videos or photos, unless Apple develops a new method for using a single lens.

In view of the uncertainty in relation to demand, Apple plans to concentrate only 10 percent of its production capacities on the iPhone 17 Air. Compared to this, 40 percent should be reserved for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the iPhone 17 Pro models and the standard model should be 25 percent of the production.
