Apple traditionally presents its new iPhones in autumn. However, this year could see buyers have the smallest selection of new models in years due to a variety of circumstances.
It is generally expected that Apple will present its new iPhone models again this year in September. In the recent past, in addition to the iPhone and its two Pro variants up to the 16 series, the Plus model was added, which was replaced by the iPhone Air last year. In total, there were always at least four different variants of the smartphone that the company presented. This year, however, the September lineup could be significantly leaner.
On the one hand, this is due to the fact that Apple is probably postponing the launch of the standard iPhone 18 to spring. Presumably in order to give the Pro models a larger stage, the basic version, together with a possible iPhone 18e, will not be presented until spring. The iPhone Air 2 could also be included.
In addition, the most spectacular new addition to Apple’s smartphone range also appears to be delayed. The iPhone Ultra could be shown together with the Pro models at the keynote in September, but sales should start at the end of the year. Normally, advance sales of the devices presented in the fall begin immediately, with delivery a few weeks later. However, delivery and production difficulties seem to have put a damper on Apple’s plans for its first foldable smartphone, meaning that this schedule will probably not be met. Even with its delayed start to sales, experts still expect “incredibly limited availability” of the foldable.
Ultimately, buyers could only have two models to choose from in mid-September instead of the usual four models. It would be the smallest fall lineup in a long time. Due to new chips and increased memory costs, buyers also have to prepare for higher prices.
