It looks like OneDrive will soon receive a Magic Eraser tool just like the Pixel style

AI is lowly and gradually incorporated into different products. The smartphone companies are adding AI features to their devices. The famous examples being the Google Photo’s Audio Magic Eraser, Magic Editor tools, and Magic Eraser. It seems like the competition between the tech giants is going to be tough in the future. In an effort to beat Google, Microsoft is working to introduce an AI Magic Eraser-like feature to OneDrive.

Features that could possibly arrive to a service can be predicted with the help of APK teardown. However, there is always a chance that such features might not be released to the stable version of the app. The code strings referring to the “Magic Erase” feature were spotted on the latest Microsoft OneDrive v7.1 beta 1 on Android. It is quite obvious that the feature will work by using AI for generative erasing functionality.

The code strings indicate that users can remove unwanted stuff from their photos with the help of the Magic Erase feature. As with other implementations, you may use a brush to select sections and mask them for removal. The eliminated region will be filled up by the feature using AI. However, the company notifies that the removed area might match user’s expectation. Notably, this is a standard warning for AI products.

The current Android version of OneDrive features a photo editor that can carry out simple editing including adjusting brightness, contrast, exposure, leveling, cropping, and others. However, the new AI Magic Erase feature is currently inaccessible within the beta version of the app. It appears to require a server switch for activation.

Whether and when Microsoft publishes this feature is still up in the air. It’s likely that this in-development feature will be released because the stock Photos app on Windows also includes AI-based generative erase features.
