Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to Todd Phillips’ acclaimed Joker film from 2019, will be released in cinemas in October and should deliver exactly what the title promises. In this “madness for two”, the Joker is now paired with a no less insane partner.
For the film, Joaquin Phoenix once again takes on the role of the eponymous comic villain, but he is no longer alone in the spotlight, because shortly after his arrest and admission to Arkham Asylum, he meets the love of his life: of course, he means the psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, or Harley Quinn, who inevitably falls victim to the Joker’s charming madness.
She is played by the American pop singer Lady Gaga, who will certainly sing a song or two in the film. The film is supposed to have several musical interludes, so even musical lovers will get their money’s worth. In the latest preview, the Joker also sings a few (slightly offbeat) tunes. In addition to Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, the film also features Zazie Beetz (Sophie Dumond), Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener.
Todd Phillips directed the film again, having previously written the screenplay with Scott Silver. Joker: Folie à Deux will be in EU cinemas from October 3, 2024, and the film will be released internationally one day earlier.
