Later this year, LG will add support for AirPlay to TVs in hotel rooms

The Cupertino-based tech company is going to expand its AirPlay feature. As per some recent pieces of information, the AirPlay feature will be supported on LG TVs in hotel rooms. LG Electronics is going to be the first TV brand that will add AirPlay support to hotel room TVs. LG announced the recent development via a press release, the company says that LG Pro: Centric Smart Hotel TVs with built-in support for AirPlay tech will be debuted later this year.

According to LG Business Solutions hospitality vice president Michael Kosla, this is a significant development for in-room entertainment in the travel and hospitality industries. “This underscores how closely we are listening to consumer requirements who increasingly desire simple access to their personal entertainment options on the biggest screen, wherever they are,” Kosla said. “Hotels that offer this feature will have an immediate advantage with visitors who use Apple devices, increasing guest satisfaction and offering real differentiation from regional competition.”

Notably, LG Electronics has collaborated with Apple to work out a simple AirPlay solution. Users of iPhones could access AirPlay by scanning a QR code. In this way, they could conveniently play content from an iPad or iPhone on hotel rooms’ TV without the requirement of additional equipment. LG Electronics added that the AirPlay feature will work on the latest models as well as the models set to be released this year.

At WWDC, Apple announced a partnership with a few hotels to offer AirPlay to televisions that support it. One of the first businesses to enable AirPlay in hotels is IHG Hotels & Resorts, which manages 6,000 locations globally.
