Latest iOS 14.7.1 Update Patches Security Hole

Owners of iPhones, iPads, and Macs are advised to initiate the recently published updates on iOS/iPadOS 14.7.1 and macOS 11.5.1. In addition to various bug fixes, Apple closes a security gap that, according to the company, could already be actively exploited.

With the recent update to iOS 14.7, an error had apparently crept in, which on certain iPhone models meant that the smartphone could not be unlocked correctly via the paired Apple Watch. The current update fixes this bug. The American manufacturer is also reacting to the CVE-2021-30807 security vulnerability, which apparently enables malicious code to be smuggled in due to a memory allocation error. According to Security Week, this is the 13th zero-day gap that Apple has closed this year.

Vulnerability also threatens Macs Similar update also available

Since the vulnerability not only affects iPhones and iPads based on iOS or iPadOS but also iMacs, MacBooks, and Mac desktops, Apple is also making an update to macOS 11.5.1 available for download at the same time. New functions will not be introduced for the company’s smartphones and tablets, laptops, and desktop PCs. Just a few days ago, iOS 14.7 and its iPad adaptation were one of the last major updates before the introduction of iOS 15, which is expected in the fall .

Since July 19, it has been possible, among other things, to equip the iPhone 12 family with the new external MagSafe battery. Various timers in connection with the HomePod can also be managed via the Home app. Selected countries also benefit from information on air quality within the weather and map apps and various filter functions within the podcast media library ensure a better overview of the broadcasts followed. There are also the usual bug fixes.
