New specifications for the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ have been leaked! The specs indicate that even the base model could have a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Until now, this hardware feature was reserved for the Ultra version only.
The end of the year is getting closer and with it the start of the next flagship season. The Galaxy S22 is expected for the beginning of January 2022 and the leaks are therefore logically increasing. This week it was the leaker ” Ice Universe “, who specializes in Samsung, who leaked new information on the camera specs of the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+.
In the leaked information, we see the main lens at 50 MP (and not 108 MP), an ultra-wide-angle lens at 12 MP, and a selfie camera at 10 MP. A 10 MP telephoto lens labeled “X3” with an aperture of f / 2.4 is also mentioned. This x3 is interesting because it is very, very, very likely the telephoto lens found in the Galaxy S21 Ultra, for example.
Only in the Ultra model Previously
The fact that the Galaxy S22 and S22+ are likely to have their own telephoto lens is neither a surprise nor big news in itself. However, the famous 3x optical zoom is interesting as this camera function is normally reserved for the Ultra model of the Galaxy range.
The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+, for example, have a 64 MP telephoto lens that only has an optical magnification of x1.1. The 3-fold zoom is then achieved through a “hybrid process”. This adds a digital zoom to the minimal 1.1x magnification. If the leak is confirmed, Samsung would finally fix this sham in the next Galaxy.
But we can also ask ourselves whether this upgrading of the vanilla and mid-range models will not go hand in hand with a price increase. Especially since the shortage of components makes it easier for manufacturers to raise prices. Let’s hope Samsung won’t turn the price screw too much. What do you think of this leak? How important is an optical zoom on the smartphone to you?
