Leak shows Google is Updating Android Auto

Google had promised a major update for Android Auto “in the summer” this year, which would make the car’s onboard system much more customizable and modern. This release plan obviously didn’t work out. So thanks to a leaker to see the update in action.

Android Auto is a lot longer in coming than promised

Yes, that’s how it is sometimes with the update promises: In May this year, Google gave the first glimpse of a completely renewed Android Auto – we reported under the heading “Adapts: Brand new look & new function for Android Auto”.

The group was certain: The update can be provided “in the summer”. Obviously, nothing came of this and Google has not wanted to provide an update for the update so far. A leak gives hope that the wait could soon be over – and allows the first glimpse of the new Android Auto in real life.

As techradar reports, the Android Auto subreddit is once again the go-to place for this unofficial overview. The user “mynamesjefffffs” shows pictures showing the new Android Auto update including the “Coolwalk UI” on the 7-inch display of his vehicle. As the leaker only briefly adds, access to the functions required a root of his smartphone, among other things.

The pictures show the options announced by Google for better displaying multiple windows side by side. Here’s a picture of Google Maps next to the Spotify app, sharing the screen roughly two-thirds to one-third. In another recording, the Spotify app is halved again by another application, with Maps retaining its size.

Hoping for an update soon

With “Coolwalk UI”, Google can offer real added value in the field of car systems, which also goes far beyond the possibilities of Apple’s competitor solution. In any case, the leak gives the impression that Google is making good progress here after obvious problems with the development. It remains to be seen when Android Auto will really be allowed behind the wheel of the new design of Android Auto.
