LG Display plans to launch several new OLED panels this year. A panel with a diagonal of only 20 inches is used in small OLED monitors. In addition, the manufacturer wants to present a transparent 77-inch panel soon. The South Korean manufacturer told the magazine the Elec.
The 20-inch panels will be produced and delivered this year. Unlike the smaller OLED panels previously available, the new panels will not be built into enterprise devices, but into end-user products. This should include smaller desktop monitors and large notebooks used for both work and gaming.
Vice President Kang Won-Seok explains that the demand for small monitors has skyrocketed during the pandemic. Many people continue to work from home and depend on high-quality screens. The OLED panels are suitable for both business and gaming use. The new panels must combine the wishes of both target groups. In addition to the small OLED panels, the manufacturer would also produce a large 77-inch screen.
The panel is designed to be completely transparent and can therefore be installed in windows, for example. The currently available transparent OLED models have a maximum size of 55 inches. The 77-inch panel is expected to launch next year. Because transparent screens result in lower contrast and less saturated colors, the monitors are not designed for private use, but mainly for use in shops and public places.
