M4 Macs: What to expect this fall
Apple will soon be presenting some of its new computers. The iMac, MacBook Pro and Mac mini are all set to receive an update. Some details have already leaked out. Users can probably expect the following new features soon.
New Macs on the way
Tomorrow, Apple will present its new iPhone, new AirPods and other products. You can follow the event via live stream from 7 p.m. But in addition to this event, there will be another one in October. That’s when Apple will show its new computers with M4 chips to the public. In addition to the chip, there will probably be a few other innovations.
More RAM for Macs
It is now almost certain that Apple will equip its new devices with more RAM. The minimum configuration is likely to come with 16 gigabytes of RAM from October onwards, rather than just eight as before. Until recently, Cupertino had repeatedly stressed that more memory was unnecessary, as the Macs use the RAM so efficiently that eight gigabytes in a MacBook are equivalent to 16 gigabytes in a PC.
However, the company has now changed course, probably as a result of the widespread introduction of functions with artificial intelligence. Since Apple Intelligence is supposed to run locally on the devices, an increase in the installed RAM can probably no longer be avoided. For the last eight years, eight gigabytes have been the standard. With the upcoming M4 Macs, it will probably be 16 gigabytes from October.
Mac mini shrinks by half
The Mac mini is getting what is probably the biggest redesign in its 14-year history. The smallest Mac is getting even smaller. The new version of the computer will be only about half as big. However, the casing could be a little taller than before.
In addition, different versions with different chips are likely. A basic version of the Mac mini is likely to appear again with the M4 chip, which is also installed in the iPad Pro. A more powerful version of the small computer is likely to be equipped with the Apple M4 Pro.
Bye-Bye Lightning
There could also be an iMac. Other desktop devices would probably also bring new Magic accessories. Since Apple only has until the end of 2024 to implement the EU regulations and replace its proprietary Lightning connectors with USB-C, a new Magic Mouse and a new Magic Keyboard could also be expected. 9To5Mac It is also speculated that the cheapest MacBook Pro could be available in Space Black in the future.
In the past, this version of the laptop was only available in Space Gray. It is not yet known when the event will take place in October. It could also take until November until the new devices are on the shelves for consumers to buy. However, the M4 chips should give the computers a further performance boost compared to their predecessors.
