Following the market launch of the MacBook Pro (13″) and MacBook Air with the Apple M2 chip, the manufacturer’s 14- and 16-inch models are now due for revision. According to experts, the macOS laptops are likely to be M2 Pro and M2 Max processors won’t be out until fall at the earliest, and as the oft-knowledgeable Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman points out in his weekly newsletter.
Apple is currently working hard on the two new notebooks or their upgrades to the recently introduced M2 processors, the group will follow its schedule, stay true to it and once again offer Pro and Max variants of its chip for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models to differentiate itself from entry-level configurations.
Gurman doesn’t expect much to change from the flagship laptops other than performance. The design with a display notch and MagSafe connection was only relaunched last year. As for the Apple M2 Pro and M2 Max, the company should also focus on increasing graphics performance. Apple is currently quantifying the upgrade from the regular M1 to the M2 processor with an 18 percent increase in CPU performance and a 35 percent improvement in GPU performance.
Unlike the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air 2022, the 14- and 16-inch models currently ship ex-factory with 512 GB SSDs. This would allow Apple to work around the slow SSD problem that occurs with new base configurations with 256 GB of flash memory. Equipped with only one memory chip instead of two, the cheapest models currently reduce data rates by up to 50 percent in read and write. For this reason, the starting price for a recommended Mac configuration is now only 1729 euros. The presentation of the new Apple MacBook Pro line-up is expected between fall 2022 and spring 2023.
