Since 2022, the Finnish studio Remedy has been working on a remake of parts one and two of their legendary game series. Now the project has reached the next phase of its development. The budget gives hope for a high-quality remake. Remedy
The first-person shooter Max Payne, best known for the invention of bullet time, is already over 20 years old. In April 2022, developer studio Remedy Entertainment and publisher Rockstar Games announced a remake of Max Payne 1 and 2. The plan is to release the two parts as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Now the project has overcome an important hurdle in its development. As Remedy announced in its latest Financial report The remake has reached the production phase.
The remake of Max Payne 1 and 2 has moved from pre-production to full production. The development team has been working to bring the game to an early working state from start to finish. Remedy Entertainment
Development is now in full swing. According to Remedy, the remake is not just a project to squeeze as much money as possible out of a well-known and formerly successful game series with as little effort as possible. The budget is said to be similar in size to that of Remedy’s last big game, Alan Wake 2. Accordingly, publisher Rockstar, which is financing the project in full, is investing around 50 million euros in the production. Fans of Max Payne can therefore look forward to a hopefully high-quality remake of the two parts of the series. There is no target release date at this time. However, since the game has only just entered the production phase, it could take until 2026 or longer before it is on the shelves or available for download.
At the same time, the Finnish developers around creative director Sam Lake, who also plays Max Payne, are working on Control 2. The sequel to the supernatural shooter is still in pre-production, however. So it will probably take even longer to be released than the remake of Max Payne 1 and 2.
