MediaTek is all ready to introduce a new sub-flagship mobile processor to its lineup i.e., Dimensity 8200 having some core updates. Dimensity 8200 is a successor of Dimensity 8100 system on chip (SoC). It is expected to be featured in a series of smartphones manufactured by Chinese brands. It is likely to go against the likes of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC.
The current offering by MediaTek directly makes its place in the flagship lineup by selecting for 4nm process of TSMC. Recently, Apple also developed its huge A16 Bionic based on 4nm tech. in contrast, the MediaTek 8100 is based on a 5nm process TSMC.
One of the key changes is in the core architecture. The Dimensity 8100 presented a dual-cluster design. It consisted of four Cortex-A78 cores and an equal number of Cortex-A55 cores. Whereas the Dimensity 8200 will offer a tri-cluster design. It is quite similar to the Dimensity 9200 mobile processor and flagships of Qualcomm.
The core architecture of Dimensity 8200
It has the following features:
In addition to these, the Dimensiyt 8200 is also equipped with the new Imagiq 785 chip. This chip serves for enhanced camera capabilities. It will enable 4K HDR video capture. In contrast the previous-gen Imagiq 780 ISP provided support for 200-megapixel image capture. Where the successor is capable of up to 320 million pixels worth of imaging data.
Furthermore, the company added that it will feature extraordinarily fast AI noise reduction. Thus delivering detailed images. The fresh silicon of MediaTek drives Full HD+ panels with up to a 180Hz refresh rate. This is an upgradation to 168Hz figures publicized by the Dimensity 8100. Additionally, it also supports 4K AV1 video decoding.
The wireless connectivity suite comprises Wi-Fi 6E, 5G, and Bluetooth 5.3. thus, providing the capacity to compete with the in-house hybrid coexistence technologies in order to lower latency and improve raw speeds.
It is expected that the first smartphone based on Dimensity 8200 will make its official appearance in December. But perhaps it could not make it to the US market. OnePlus and Motorola are expected to take a step further. Since OnePlus seems enthusiastic about utilizing the MediaTek processors in its budget-friendly Nord series smartphones just like Motorola has with various U.S handsets.
