Mercedes-Benz: Brand-new electric A-Class from 2025

Mercedes wants to build a real Volkswagen ID.3 competitor – to gain a foothold not only in the luxury segment with sedans and the like, but also in the small car class with electric vehicles. For this, the MMA platform is being trimmed to small cars, so that a new A-Class with electric drive can be expected in 2025. This is apparent from various media reports. The development of a tailor-made electric car architecture for small cars should enable the German carmaker to create an “electric replacement” for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. This is in line with the company’s plans to introduce an electric car in every segment by 2025.

There is more and more information that the electric A-class will not be abolished, contrary to what some experts initially suspected. According to the new reports, Mercedes will not launch a new EQA model before 2025. The currently smallest model of the EQ family is the crossover Mercedes-Benz EQA, an electric version of the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

It is one of four electric vehicles in the brand’s portfolio – alongside the slightly larger Mercedes-Benz EQB, the Mercedes-Benz EQC SUV and the van-based Mercedes-Benz EQV. In order to position itself more broadly, as is also the case with combustion engines, the MMA platform is now being adapted for the premium segment of small cars.

The goal is to build a vehicle that can compete with the VW ID.3, as this small electric car has always been in first place in the registration statistics next to the VW e-Up. Small cars, however, do not mean that Mercedes will not continue to focus on the luxury segment. The group had only confirmed this a few days ago – so it won’t be about the price, but about the equipment options. Electric car infographic: VW e-up! benefits the most from the environmental bonus.
