Microsoft confirms: Windows 10 also gets new “feature update”

As Microsoft confirms with the cumulative update KB5014666, Windows 10 with build 19045 will also receive a “feature update”. However, in all likelihood, Windows 10 22H2 will focus less on the feature set and much more on optimizations and bug fixes, and security updates.

Build 19045 is Windows 10 22H2

Like the site, Neowin first reported that after installing the cumulative update KB5014666, new packages for the next higher build can be activated via the operating system command prompt. After the packages, which have been delivered without new features so far, are installed, the system reports an installed Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.1806) in the start menu under System → About.

A “feature update” with no new features

After installing the packages, the new build 19045 and the change to Windows 10 22H2 can be seen in the system information. However, no new features are expected as part of the official rollout. Even if the annual feature update is also planned for Windows 10 with “22H2”, the new feature is completely reserved for Windows 11.

The focus is on Windows 11

Microsoft will quietly distribute the update to Windows 10 22H2 via Windows Update, feature updates for the predecessor of Windows 11 are no longer discussed on the insider program website at all. Microsoft’s focus is now entirely on the upcoming release of Windows 11 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2, which is scheduled for fall 2023.
